Bela Sara
Бела Сара
Republic of the Congo, DR Congo · Painting · State Museum of Oriental Art collection
Bela Sara was one of the pioneers of modern art in the Congo. Self-taught, he worked as a cook and a car washer. Pierre Romain-Desfossés invited him to his art workshop in Élisabethville (now Lubumbashi), which later became known as the Hangar. For several years Bela was also connected with the Poto-Poto school of painting in Brazzaville.
