Artists of Africa.Art of the continent
Africa Art is an Africa Centrum project about contemporary African art. Photographers and painters from across the continent show how they see their cities, their people, their memory and their future.
The exhibition leaves the gallery for the city: on 28 and 29 October, during the Summit, the works will be shown on digital screens in Moscow, the Moscow Region and ten more Russian cities. The stories of the works and the artists are collected here, on the project site.

About the talk
We will talk about how contemporary African artists reflect on cultural memory, identity and change in society. Through works by artists in the Africa Art project, we will discuss the variety of the continent’s artistic languages, the links between art, history and everyday life, and themes and images that remain little known outside Africa.
How the works were chosen
We looked for work that is strong as art, speaks about today and comes from many parts of the continent.

His areas of expertise span multidisciplinary cultural management, management, production, curation, and publishing. A member of several boards and professional networks, he puts an impressive network of contacts at the service of creativity.

Daria Vanyukova
Project curatorDaria Vanyukova holds a PhD in art history and is deputy head of the Museum of African Cultures department at the State Museum of Oriental Art. She has curated a series of exhibition projects on the art of sub-Saharan Africa.

Jocelin-Patrick Mandzela
President of Africa CentrumWe set out to show Africa through the work of African artists themselves: how they see the continent’s history, everyday life and culture.
The curatorial duo brought together African and Russian views of contemporary art. That is the core idea of the project, in the spirit of the Russia–Africa Summit: not just an introduction to a culture, but an exchange of perspectives and a living dialogue.
